We Can Do Temple Work for People Who are Dead

Bulletin Board Activity

Preparation:

Get the following pictures:
1. A nurse helping a patient
2. A mother getting a book for her son
3. A woman tying a shoelace for a child
4. A temple

Wordstrip or written heading: We can do temple work for people who are dead.

Procedure:

Ask the students what is happening in each picture. Ask the students to tell about some times when other people have help them. Put the picture of the temple on the bulletin board. Tell the students that many people have died without being baptized or doing their temple work. Help the students understand that we can help people who are dead by going to the temple and doing their temple work for them.

Bulletin Board Activity

Preparation

Get the following pictures:
  1. A boy (and give him a name)
  2. Two gravestones with last names inscribed
  3. A genealogy chart
  4. A temple
Position the pictures on the bulletin board in two rows: top row has only the picture of the boy, positioned directly above the gravestones; second row has the other three pictures, in order from left to right (gravestones, genealogy chart, temple).

Procedure

Ask the students what they think this boy can do to help his great, great grandparents (names inscribed on the headstones). As you explain what he can do, move the picture of the boy from above the gravestones to the genealogy chart to the temple. Help the students understand how we can help our family members who are dead by doing their temple work for them.

Bulletin Board Activity

Preparation

Get the following pictures:
  1. A cemetery
  2. A nearby temple
  3. A temple baptismal font
  4. A temple ordinance room
  5. A temple altar
Make the following word strips:
  1. We can do temple work for people who are dead.
  2. We can be baptized for them.
  3. We can be sealed for them.
  4. We can do endowments for them.
Prepare the bulletin board by placing the first word strip on the board and all of the pictures.

Procedure

Show the picture of the cemetery. Ask the students if they know anyone who was not a member of the Church when he died. Help the students understand that there are many people who have died without becoming members of the Church. Ask them what temple work we can do to help these people. As the students answer, put the correct word strips under each of the pictures.
