Grab Bag of Scripture Stories

Using a drawstring bag, fill with inexpensive toys or prizes that could represent different scripture stories or teachings. Then, during a family home evening or others learning time, have each family member or friend draw an object from the bag and tell a story from the scriptures that the item reminds him of.

Here are some possibilities:
  • Serpent - Garden of Eden (Genesis 3:1-15; Moses 4:5-21), Moses and Aaron before the Pharoah (Exodus 7:10-12), serpent of brass (Exodus 4:1-4; Numbers 21:6-9; John 3:14-15)
  • Whale - Jonah swallowed by the whale
  • Two of any animals together - Noah and the ark (Genesis 6:5-8:22)
  • Cricket/locust - Plagues on Egypt (Exodus 8-10)
  • Scissors - Samson & Delilah (Judges 16:4-31)
  • Salt - Lot's wife (Genesis 19:15-26), "Ye are the salt of the earth" (Matthew 5:13; Luke 14:34; 3 Nephi 12:13)
  • Seed - parable of the sower (Matthew 13:3-9, 18-23), faith compared to a seed (Alma 32:28-43), faith as a mustard seed (Matthew 13:31-32; 17:20)
  • Baby - Moses in the bulrushes (Exodus 2:1-10), nativity of Christ (Luke 1:26-49; 2:1-20)
  • Boat - Nephi builds a ship (1 Nephi 17:7-18:4), brother of Jared builds barges (Ether 2:16-3:16), Noah and the ark (Genesis 6:5-8:22)
  • Coin - Parable of the piece of silver or lost coin (Luke 15:8-10), render unto Caesar (Matthew 22:15-22), widow's mite (Mark 12:41-44)
  • Globe - Creation (Genesis 1:1-2:3; Moses 2), teach all nations: "go ye into all the world" )Matthew 28:19-20; Mark 16:15-16)
  • Sheep - Parable of the lost lamb (Luke 15:3-7), other sheep I have (John 10:14-16; 3 Nephi 15:16-21) Ammon and the flocks of King Lamoni (Alma 17:21-39)
  • Lion - Daniel in the lion's den (Daniel 6:10-23)
  • Plate of food - Daniel and his friends eat good food and grow strong (Daniel 1:3-21), Word of Wisdom (D&C 89)
  • Candle - Let your light shine (Matthew 5:15-16)
  • Bird - Noah and the ark (Genesis 6:5-8:22) Baptism of Jesus (Matthew 3:13-17; Mark 1:9-11; Luke 3:21-22; John 1:29-34)
  • Bread - Lord's Prayer (Matthew 6:9-13), Jesus feeds the 5,000 (Matthew 15:32-38), Bread of Life (John 6:35; Alma 5:34)
