So great was Joseph's love for his parents that he wrote in his diary: "Blessed is my mother for her soul is ever filled with benevolence . . . and blessed in my father, for the hand of the Lord shall be over him."
Father (a poem by Joseph Smith)
I have remembered scenes of my childhood.
I have thought of my father
And his noble deeds.
He was a great and good man.
He was of noble stature.
He possessed a holy and virtuous mind.
He never did a mean act.
Many of his kind words to me
Are written on the tablet of my heart.
