How Noah's Family Was Saved

Narrate:

In Noah's time the people became so wicked that God was very unhappy with them. Noah and his family were the only people who were trying to do right and with whom God was pleased. Noah was a good and righteous father and patriarch to his family. He taught them all he learned from God. Noah's children believed their father; and even when all the people around them were doing wrong, they were obedient and kept the commandments of God.

One day the Lord spoke to Noah and said that he was going to allow a great flood to destroy all the other people on earth, but that he wanted to save Noah's family because they were living righteously. God then told Noah how to build a very large boat, called an ark. Noah and his sons worked for many years to build the ark. When it was finished they put into it many kinds of animals and a large supply of food.

Once again God spoke to Noah, telling him that a flood would come soon and that it was now time for him to take his family into the ark. Because Noah was a good father and had listened to the Lord, he and his family were saved from the flood, which drowned all the other people on the earth.

Building the ark was a family project; Noah received the inspiration and instruction from God, but without the help and obedience of his family, the ark could not have been built. By working together, the whole family was saved.

Ask:
  1. Your family may never be threatened by a flood, but there are other dangers which may threaten you. What are some of them?
  2. How can your family provide safety?
  3. During the time they were building the ark, far from any ocean, what might Noah's sons have thought of their father's plans?
  4. Have there been times when you questioned the wisdom of your parents?
