Temple Preparation Object Lesson

Preparation: Use real clothing or pictures of white clothing: shoes, socks, dress or skirt & blouse, pants, shirt, tie. Have a suitcase ready. Prepare wordstrips that say such things as: clean thoughts, kid words, acts of service, good example, obedience, etc. Pin one wordstrip on each clothing item.

Begin with clothing out of sight. Talk about the need to wear white to the temple. It is a symbol of the cleanliness and purity of our lives and spirits. No one takes part in the temple ordinances unless they are wearing white.

As you show the clothing (with wordstrips pinned on each) say: "We need white shoes and clean thoughts. We need white socks and obediece to commandments." etc.

To close: Place clothing into suitcase and shut it, saying, "We can prepare our clothing ahead of time. We can also prepare ourselves by obedience to commandments which keeps our lives pure, just as the clothing is white."
